No-exam life insurance
Understanding accelerated underwriting: which applicants are eligible, how the process works, and what happens when it's not available.
Today, many insurance companies offer accelerated underwriting. This means that for applicants meeting certain age and benefit amount criteria, the insurer reaches a decision using just the application form, records of prescriptions, driving history and other databases, dispensing with a paramedical exam. Decisions for qualified applicants may arrive within 24 hours. This website indicates for each quote whether a medical exam is needed, might be required, or is unlikely.
What it changes
Skipping a medical test is not the same as skipping underwriting. Your application answers are reviewed and verified; policies issued based on inaccurate information can be challenged within the initial two years. Should additional questions arise from the carrier's investigation, they may request testing or lab results; at that time, you can determine whether to continue.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, applicants below approximately age 60 requesting coverage below the carrier's standard underwriting threshold, with minimal medical history and no tobacco or nicotine use for 12+ months, qualify. Carriers may use recent blood work or labs from your physician instead of requiring a new exam.
Should testing be required, a paramedical professional typically schedules a 20-40 minute appointment at a location convenient to you in South Pasadena or your area, at no expense. Test results frequently result in improved rate classifications for those in good health, so underwriting evaluations aren't necessarily detrimental.
